You are indeed blessed to find an opportunity to get science education at one of the best colleges of India, i.e., Govt. Science College, Jabalpur (Old Robertson College), which has been nurtured and benefitted by the great Acharya of this division. The college has the privilege of having a healthy, harmonious ambience, rich in shaping the future of innumerable students.
As the Head of the Institution, I feel immense pleasure to welcome all the students of Under Graduate courses, Post Graduate courses and Research streams. It is a matter of pride that the college has been awarded “A” grade in NAAC accreditation in the years 2002, 2011 and 2019 assessment continuously. The achievement has burgeoned recently in July 2018 with the award of the Institute of Excellence by the Chief Minister, Govt of Madhya Pradesh.
With a proud legacy of 185 years since its establishment in 1836, it has excelled in every field. I feel great proud that this is the only college in the entire Madhya Pradesh and among 19 colleges in India achieving Special Heritage Status by UGC, New Delhi in 2015.
We have a large pool of energetic and highly experienced faculty members to educate young minds, conducting innovative research at national and international levels. Our institution occupies an exceptional position at the national level providing modern techniques and equipments for quality research works. The college has well-furnished Hostels for boys and girls separately and maintained by providing good facilities to the students. Various committees like discipline, cultural, literacy, creative art, sports and NCC and NSS units also boost the students to excel and develop their overall personality.
Many students have registered their presence in inter university competitions in different fields and won the prizes. The entrepreneur/ employment cell, internal quality assessment cell and Vivekananda Carrier guidance cell in the College are always active to hype up the moral, physical and mental growth of the students; many students are selected every year by diverse service sectors.
Twenty-nine Gold Medals have been established in the college, which exemplify its glorious prestige to honour the academic excellence of our students.
Be steady in your studies. Learn to enjoy hard work, particularly your studies. Think wisely, think systematically. Always prepare yourself for the next day’s lesson. Be very serious and attentive in class.
Preserve our heritage and environment to yourself as well as for your batches next. Hard work, dedication and perseverance are the most important traits in a person that are needed to succeed. The future belongs to you; you need therefore to prepare yourself for the active participation in the world. The participation demands that you become well-informed and hence develop yourself like a pioneer and ultimately grow as a responsible person. I strongly believe that you would develop a versatile personality during your stay in this temple of learning.
